At its sitting on 29 September 2006 the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia set the date of the ordinary elections for the position of Governor (Bashkan) of Gagauzia — the 3rd of December 2006. At the same sitting, the People’s Assembly has appointed the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) of Gagauzia, Victor Kaloshin being later elected as its president. Some representatives of the regional opposition have declared that several infringements have been admitted at the approval of the electoral body, therefore they doubt the legality of elections.
