The first candidate registered by the Central Electoral Commission of the Gagauzia for the position of Governor of the ATU Gagauzia is Gheorghe Tabunsсiс, the present Governor of this autonomous region. Mr. Tabunscic has presented subscription lists with 7381 of supporting signatures, from which 6811 have been considered valid, while a minimum of 5000 are necessary. The registration decision has been adopted on 6 October 2006.

Later, CEC of Gagauzia has registered the second candidate, Nicolai Dudoglo, the mayor of Comrat.

Subscription lists have been issued to other initiative groups willing to register the following candidates:

• Mihail Formuzal, the mayor of Ceadir-Lunga and the head of the “Edinaia Gagauzia” Movement (on 09.10.2006 the supporting initiative group of M. Formuzal has presented to the electoral body the subscription lists with 7545 of signatures);
• Alexandru Stoianoglo, deputy General Prosecutor and former Prosecutor of the ATU Gagauzia;
• Valeri Ianioglo, cadidate of the “Patria-Rodina-Ravnopravie” Electoral Bloc;
• Leonid Dobrov, head of the “Gagauz-Halki” Movement;
• Dmitri Cimpoesh, head of the Fund for the supporting of the Gagauz entrepreneurs.
