Dumitru Braghis’ electoral staff held a press conference on the authorities’ abuses in favour of the Communist candidate to the Mayor position, on the expense of other contestants: a) ruling party has displayed via a non-governmental organisation (Centre for Social Development “Avante”) posters bearing the symbol and the slogans of the Communist candidate, none of which was paid from the candidates’ electoral fund; b) police harasses those electioneering for other contestants that the Communist candidate, albeit the latter are posting electoral ads in places not provided by the law; c) some of those arrested for electioneering have been taken to the police station in the cars of the Communist staff; Director of the Organ Hall refused independent candidate’s application to host there a meeting with his voters, albeit one day earlier they had consented. The unofficial reason for refusal was the prohibition imposed by the Ministry of Culture; d) free of charge electoral ads of the Communist candidate are broadcast in the most advantageous slots the first and last"; e) Dumitru Braghis’ staff posted electoral ads on billboards in line with the law, nevertheless General Direction of Architecture and Urbanism Department obliged advertising companies to “immediately withdraw the electoral ads”; f) electoral ads of the candidates running against Communist party were spoiled and destroyed. g) on July 5, ULIM student Artur Taulean while on his way to the electoral staff of Dumitru Braghis was aggressed by policeman Ceban.

Braghis staff protests: a) condemning the way campaign is unfolding and the passivity of the bodies responsible for the conduct of elections in line with European and international norms; b) voices its concerns as regards Chisinau Electoral Council’s ability to ensure correct tabulation of the votes.

Braghis’ electoral staff declared that via its observers and representatives in polling stations they would conduct parallel vote counting so as to prevent any attempt to rig election results.

Gheorghe Sima addressed an appeal to Ion Stratulat

Candidate of the Labour Union “Patria-Rodina”, Gheorghe Sima, addressed an appeal to Ion Stratulat, Chair of the Chisinau District Electoral Council reading:

“Under Article 35 paragraph 6 of the Electoral Code, local government is obliged to provide electoral bodies with premises and equipment for vote tabulation.

According to my sources, Ministry of Information technology insists to tabulate the votes itself without being entitled to do so.

I would like you to report on the local government’s possibilities, equipment that would be used for the vote tabulation available and whether it is operational”.
