The Chisinau Municipal Electoral Council has registered Mr. Vasile Ursu as candidate for the position of general mayor of Chisinau.

Mr. Vasile Ursu is exercising the function of interim-mayor of Chisinau and is member of “Our Moldova” Alliance. Nevertheless, only President Vladimir Voronin, the leader of Party of Communists) has publicly supported his candidature for the mayoralty and has emphasized that Mr. Ursu is out of political parties interests.

The representatives of different political parties have commented the event in different ways, but shared the common opinion that the support of Mr. Ursu by communists was not unexpected, as immediately after the summer invalided elections for the mayoralty it became obvious that communist were supporting Mr. Ursu in his position of interim-mayor.

So far, officialy were registered five candidates, the sixth (Oleg Cernei) is to complete the documents submitted earlier.
