The Parliament knew that the Electoral Code violates the law on protection of personal data

Iurie Ciocan, chairman of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), claims that Parliament leadership had been informed about differences between the Law on protection of personal data and the Electoral Code back in 2013, but so far they have done nothing to change the situation. According to him, difficulties arise when ensuring the security of the information in electoral lists both at the time of their compilation and updating by local public authorities and at the time of their verification by voters during electoral periods. This declaration was made in the context of verifications initiated by the National Center for the Personal Data Protection for violations by the CEC of the law on protection of personal data. // noi.md

Persons with disabilities to monitor the elections

The Center for Legal Assistance for Persons with Disabilities will monitor the electoral campaign for the local elections of 14 June through observers from among persons with disabilities. The goal of the monitoring is to analyze compliance with the persons with disabilities’ right to vote. They will monitor the availability and quality of access routes to voting places, the road infrastructure, availability of access ramps at voting places, and will analyze whether the candidates’ electoral platforms are accessible to persons with disabilities. As a result of this effort, recommendations will be formulated for local and central public authorities regarding equal access to the electoral process. // IPN
