Dumitru Braghis, the leader of the Social Democrat Party (PSD), launched a demand towards the Government for the urgent approval of an anti-crisis program. According to PSD, the delay of the program’s approval until after the parliamentary elections would deepen the crisis and even totally ruin the national economy. According to Braghis, “PSD has an anti-crisis program that concerns the price decrease fore imported and local food products, the decrease to 5% of the value added tax, the creation of a State Commission that would take care of reducing prices for oil, gas, electricity and communal services, automatically offering heat compensations for the unprivileged social layers. PSD also proposes to reduce the import, by temporarily increasing the customs duties for Moldovan merchandise, stopping privatization of the national commercial units and public patrimony, canceling the added value tax for equipment import, and also by creating a State Company that would offer dwelling purchase credits to the population. The PSD leader stated that he is ready to discuss the creation of a post parliamentary election majority coalition with parties that have not yet entered the Parliament in order to unblock the situation and not allow the crisis to deepen.” (source: INFOTAG news). The leaders of other parties qualified PSD’s initiative as being an electoral maneuver.

According to Diacov “people are confused, they don’t understand what is going on. Everyone promises to increase wages and pensions, but no one mentions that the economy’s situation is most dramatic. We must think about what to do with the biggest investor — the citizens working abroad and transferring annual 2 billion dollars worth of remittances f, with no possibility of investing their money here.” Dumitru Diacov mentioned that one of the first new Parliament’s laws should concern the total tax and duties exemption for the new rural businesses. “We must give people the opportunity to work, to strengthen. The army of predators, which formed this system that stops the development of rural business, must not come upon them. Due to stimulus lack, people massively abandon their villages”, also stated Diacov (source: INFOTAG news)
Pre-electoral intimidations
The peaceful protest against violation of human rights in the Republic of Moldova, organized by a group of NGOs in front of the General Prosecutor’s office, was interrupted by a group of 6 individuals wearing masks who unexpectedly attacked the protesters. The way the protesters were attacked and the police non-implication made the protesters’ leaders assume that it was all about discouraging the right to peaceful protest before the elections. More NGOs, including the Coalition 2009 for free and fair elections, expressed their indignation and concern towards the violation of freedom of expression and assembly.
