Fifty-five TV and radio channels will cover the electoral campaign for the April 5, 2009 elections, in accordance with their internal regulations approved by the media watchdog CCA. CCA sources said that 27 TV channels, 25 radio channels and 3 private broadcasters have accepted to cover the elections by organising debates and airing electoral advertising. Ten TV channels and 8 radio channels did not accept to cover the electoral campaign. (according to Moldpres)
Conservative Party applies for registration
The Conservative Party (CP) has applied to the CEC in order to be registered as electoral contestant for the April 5 parliamentary elections. If registered, CP will be the 11th contestant in ballot papers.
PSD loses positions in Chisinau
PSD has suffered one more electoral loss the next day after the leader of the Cantemir-based PSD branch announced the accession to the UCM. PSD secretary-general Eduard Musuc was dismissed as chairman of the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC). The initiative to dismiss Musuc came from PLDM leader Alexandru Tanase.
Former premier Tarlev willing to be recognised UCM chairman
UCM has contested in the Chisinau Court of Appeal the refusal of the Ministry of Justice to register Vasile Tarlev as UCM chairman. In quality of informal UCM leader, former premier Tarlev is motivated to produce events capable to reveal the defying conduct of authorities and ruling party implicitly, as he claims the support of an electoral segment of PCRM.
PLDM opens the campaign “Let’s send vote to home”
The Youth Organisation of PLDM has opened a campaign called “Let’s send a vote to home”. The campaign targets at relatives of Moldovan nationals from other countries. Moldovan guest workers are invited to contact their families, relatives, friends from Moldova and make them take part in the April 5, 2009 and vote against communists. The campaign is a response to refusal of communist authorities to ensure respect for the constitutional electoral right of Moldovan nationals from other countries.
AMN announces “double victory”
AMN has announced a “double victory” — the accusations brought against AMN candidate Svetlana Chifa are groundless and the Centru Law Court in Chisinau turned down the home arrest measure due to the lack of evidence; the Buiucani Court in Chisinau has declared the newspaper “Moldova Suverana” guilty for libelling AMN leader Serafim Urecehan.

The Transnistrian settlement is becoming an electoral topic. While Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is expected in Chisinau, the Russian Foreign Ministry has made public its visions regarding conditions to settle the Transnistrian conflict: equal rights to the parties — Chisinau and Tiraspol; agreement to give up unilateral solutions and other pressing measures; the necessity to settle all controversial issues through peaceful and political means exclusively shall help restore confidence in the region and make both sides take concrete actions. This approach makes useless and even detrimental the Voronin-Smirnov meeting scheduled before elections.

The “Civic Initiative for a Clean Parliament” made of Moldovan NGOS calls upon Moldovan citizens to help cleaning up candidates’ lists of the political parties registered by CEC: “Persons who know compromising information about candidates who do not deserve to succeed to the future Parliament are invited to send it to moldovacurata@gmail.com … Revelations by people will be checked by professional journalists employed by the Civic Initiative for a Clean Parliament for monitoring lists of electoral candidates”. The Unites States Agency for International Development (USAID) has provided financial assistance worth 45,000 dollars via IREX to 12 Moldovan NGOs, in order to mobilise the electorate to participate in elections by organising campaigns, public debates, equal-to-equal activities, social theatres, and voting simulations.
