AMN accuses PCRM of paint assault on protest group

“We have seen people made by communists,” the spokesman for the “Moldova Noastra” (Our Moldova) Alliance (AMN), Victor Osipov, has said about assaulted who sprinkled paint on a group of young AMN members. The incident took place on Friday, March 13, while young AMN members were protesting in front of the Interior Ministry against police meddling in electoral campaign. AMN protestors provided more details about the incident during a press conference on Saturday, March 14. Sergiu Baltag, leader of the young AMN organisation, explained that AMN members could not catch assailants to deliver them to the police, as they have left the scene by a car shortly after throwing green paint bottles against protestors. Young AMN members claim to have identified some assailants, as they clashed together during a March 3 protest in front of the Government. AMN submitted 4 appeals to police and prosecutor’s office asking them to investigate the case. There were no immediate comments from the Interior Ministry regarding this case. (Source: Info-Prim)

Court of Appeal turns down API application

The Chisinau Court of Appeal has turned down as groundless an application by the Independent Press Association (API) and Coalition-2009 against a decision by the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) to forewarn API in connection with an article published in the supplement Obiectiv. API will apply to a higher court, the Superior Court of Justice (CSJ), API executive director Petru Macovei said. Further, API will apply to the European Court of Human Rights, shall CSJ turn down its appeal. (Source: Info-Prim)

“Ravnopravie” Movement has a new chairman

Boris Sapalov is the new chairman of the social-political Movement “Ravnopravie” (Equality). “Ravnopravie” informed the Ministry of Justice on March 13 that it has dismissed Valeri Klimenco and elected a new chairperson of the organisation board, according to a ministerial communication. It said that Valeri Klimenco is not part of the “Ravnopravie” board any longer. Four more members have been dismissed along with Klimenco. Documents submitted by “Ravnopravie” to the Ministry of Justice in order to modify the name of chairperson in the register of political parties are being considered. Valeri Klimenco is an electoral candidate on behalf of the Centrist Union of Moldova. (Source: Info-Prim)

MAE opens anti-corruption marches

The “Actiunea Europeana” Movement (MAE) opened a series of anti-corruption marches on March 14. Marches will take place in 12 cities of Moldova in three weeks, with MAE team promoting the party’s electoral programme under the slogan “Corruption-Free Moldova”. The first march takes place in the city of Nisporeni. It will end with a MAE-organised concert for residents from Ungheni and neighbouring areas, with the participation of music bands Class, Simplu etc. (Source: MAE press release)

CEC forewarns PL, PLDM and PD

The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) forewarned on March 13 the Liberal Party, Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova and Democratic Party of Moldova for having introduced electoral articles in periodicals without paying in advance. These decisions came after a representative of the Party of Communists, Serghei Sirbu, has applied to CEC in this respect. Therefore, CEC ascertained that the three parties have violated Article 33 of the regulation on coverage of electoral campaign, which says that electoral articles shall be paid in advance and these expenses shall be covered by financial reports submitted to CEC. At the same time, CEC noted that appeals have been partly accepted, as the runners concerned came into line with decisions and further paid invoices, so that they will not be sanctioned. BNM defends leu

The Board of Directors of the National Bank of Moldova (BNM) has released a statement demanding newspapers Moldavskie Vedomosti and Timpul to respect the professional deontology. According to BNM sources, all these “dark” political technologies aim to give birth to distrust towards exchange rate of leu, alarm people and destabilise political situation. The central bank asks people not to fall under influence of groundless speculations on domestic currency market fuelled by unjustified statements, and not to take unwise actions which could hit themselves in the event of a new trend of exchange rate of Moldovan leu versus US dollar. CEC accredits another 17 foreign and 19 national observers

On Friday, March 13, the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) accredited 19 observers on behalf of the First Club of the Council of Europe Association to monitor the parliamentary elections on April 5, 2009. As well, the Commission accredited 9 international observers on behalf of the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States and 8 international observers representing the Ukrainian Embassy to Moldova.
