CEC reasonably denies allegations of manipulation with supplementary lists

Central Electoral Commission (CEC) expressed its disagreement to the information published in some mass media saying that the results of early parliamentary elections on November 28, 2010 have been manipulated through supplementary voter lists. In a special statement, the CEC communicates: On parliamentary elections of November 28, 2010 165,580 citizens voted on supplementary electoral lists, of whom 65,500 abroad (in the previous parliamentary elections — maximum 19,000 citizens, most on additional lists). CEC notes that after the amendments made in September to the Electoral Code, the additional lists were mostly used for students and pupils with the right to vote, who don’t have their domicile or residence in the localities where they study, these lists were also used for those domiciled or resident in the Transnistrian region and detainees. Consequently, the number of citizens who voted in the elections of November 28, 2010 on supplementary voters’ lists because of the errors in basic voter lists is significantly lower than in previous elections, which indicates a better quality of basic electoral lists.
