Exclusion of the “Patria” Party from elections confirmed by the Supreme Court
The Supreme Court of Justice rejected the “Patria (Homeland)” Party appeal and maintained the decision of the Court of Appeal concerning annulment of the registration of the electoral contestant and confiscation of 8 million lei — funds from abroad used by the party for the electoral campaign. The request to exclude the party from the electoral race was filed to the Court of Appeal by the Central Electoral Commission as a result of a notification from the General Police Inspectorate about the use by “Patria” of electoral funds amounting to 8 million lei from abroad. The party will still appear in the ballots, which have already been printed and sent to polling places abroad, but the “Withdrawn” stamp will be applied against its name. // IPN
