Monitoring Report points to mass-media continuing manipulation in the electoral campaign

The Center for Independent Journalism (CIJ) and the Association of Independent Press (API) presented their third monitoring report on mass-media involvement in the electoral campaign. According to the authors, some media outlets continue to cover the campaign in a biased, unbalanced and manipulative manner while the Broadcasting Coordinating Council (BCC) does not display a behavior the broadcast regulatory authority should have in this period.

According to the report, candidates most favored in terms of frequency and duration of coverage received as well as positive context on TV were Marian Lupu and Igor Dodon, who were mentionned more in a favourabler manner (198 and, respectively, 86 times) than in an unfavourable manner (95 and 39 times, respectively). On the other side, the candidates Maia Sandu and Andrei Nastase were more often mentioned in unfavourable context (83 and, respectively, 52 times) than in a favourable on (32 and 26 times, respectively). // media-azi.md

A group of deputies of the first Parliament expressed their support for Maia Sandu

In a statement publicized at a press conference, nearly 30 signatories, stated that today Maia Sandu is representing all citizens who want to stay and live here, at home, in a prosperous country, and also represents the society’s determination to lean towards Western civilized nations of the EU. “We call upon everyone, to mobilize on October 30 and vote for Maia Sandu, so that we return the presidential institution back to the people. We insist that candidates declaring themselves pro-European and unionists, withdraw from the competition and back up Maia Sandu” said former deputy, Valentin Dolganiuc. // IPN

Poll credits PSRM and PAS candidates as having highest chances of making it to the second round of the presidential elections

Intellect Group company published the results of a new public opinion poll according to which the socialist Igor Dodon still has the upper hand in voters’ preferences, with an advantage of 17% compared to second favorite candidate Maia Sandu. If presidential elections were held next Sunday respondents said they would vote for the following candidates: 31.4% for Igor Dodon, 14.8% for Maia Sandu, 13.9% for Marian Lupu, 9.3% for Andrei Nastase, 6.7% for Iurie Leanca and 5.4% for Dumitru Ciubasenco. The survey was conducted in the period of October 10 — 16, 2016, by Intellect Group company, on a sample of over 910 respondents. // Adevarul
