Coalition for Free and Fair Elections expresses concerns

Civic Coalition for Free and Fair Elections expresses concern about how the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) and the Audiovisual Coordinating Council (ACC) observe and apply the electoral legislation. In a statement issued on August 19, the Coalition draws attention to issues regarding:
  1. registration by CEC of some participants for referendum in breach of electoral legislation in force (which expose options that are not stipulated by law);
  2. ACC inappropriate behavior during the electoral period:
    • the list of national broadcasters was not made public in time prescribed by the electoral law;
    • broadcasters did not ensure the observance of the provisions regarding the requirement to submit the editorial policy for the electoral campaign;
    • formal and negligent attitude towards content of declarations regarding broadcasters’ editorial policy;
    • failure to submit monitoring reports regarding the campaign coverage by broadcasters.
Civic Coalition for Free and Fair Elections urges CEC, ACC and broadcasters to make sure they have learnt lessons from past electoral campaigns, and therefore effectively and not declaratively follow the democratization of society, including by organizing free and fair elections.
