Meeting with LPA on the issue of referendum organization
Prime Minister invited representatives of local authorities to a working meeting on the organization of constitutional referendum of September 5, 2010. The meeting was attended by almost 750 LPA representatives (mayors and chairmen of districts), representatives of Central Electoral Commission, Ministry of Interior and Prosecutor General's Office, diplomatic missions and civil society. In his speech, the Prime Minister Filat said this meeting is focused on the organization and conduct of referendum, ensuring the citizens’ rights and necessary conditions so as to make them express their choice by voting. At the same time, he mentioned that the boycott is within the limits of the law, but actions undertaken by proponents of this position should not be transformed in sabotage taken by local authorities, which would limit the citizen’s right to free expression. CEC representatives have referred to the need for adequate training and equipping the premises of polling stations and to ensure the adequate quality of voter lists, which still have shortcomings, and the efforts of local authorities are not effective for excluding those gaps. In response, LPA representatives have invoked the insufficient coordination by the central authorities and errors that perpetuate in voter lists, despite the fact that local authorities have previously warned about this the competent bodies and have made corrections.
CEC additionally informs about the possibility of getting the voting certificates
Central Electoral Commission reminds voters that voting certificates may be picked up at every bureau of polling stations until September 4, 2010 inclusive. Under electoral law, those people who will not be on Election Day in the locality of their domicile or residence may request a voting certificate from the bureau of polling station. This shall be issued based on ID that is accepted for participation in voting and will allow voters to vote in any polling station throughout the country. CEC reiterates that students who, by the time of the referendum, will not have a temporary residence visa processed in the locality where they carrying out their studies, will be able to vote either in place of their permanent residence or in another polling station of the country if they have a voting certificate.
